“Stop the presses!”
“This is a television network, not a newspaper, we don’t have presses.”
“Then stop whatever. I have a great idea for a Canadian sit-com. We still have time to get it on for this fall’s new line-up.”
“Go on.”
“I call it Gilligan’s Island Canada!”
“What’s the premise?”
“We ‘strand’ seven castaways on a desert isle.”
“Location?”
“Vancouver Island. The SS Minnow is already there…and it’s for sale! We pick a desolate arid spot. Tofino seems to be the logical choice. Then a bunch of crazy antics are sure to follow.”
“What about casting?”
“Mike Duffy as the Skipper. We’ll need to get Harper as his whipping boy, Gilligan.”
“I like it. Who else?”
“Pamela Sue Anderson as the movie star. She’s from there. It’s a natural.”
“Who plays Mary Ann and the Professor?”
“Shania Twain and Peter Mansbridge.”
“Solid choices. Wholesome and bookish. What about the Howells?”
“I thought it was a given. Conrad Black and his wife. We can watch the hilarity unfold as they and the other castaways try to survive on $200,000 a month.”
“$200,000 a month? On Vancouver Island?”
“That’s the schtick!”
“I love it. This could be the hit of the season, given what we’re up against.”
“And if it ever goes stale, we’ll just start dropping off other Canadian celebrities to freshen things up.”
“I’ve already booked the Maple Leafs. They’re sure to be available early next spring!”
“Start production right away.”
