LABOUR DAY FOOTBALL CLASSICS/MORE CANADIAN TROOPS KILLED
SEPTEMBER 5, 2006
Word Count:250

“How was your weekend?”

“Not bad, I love Labour Day weekends.”

“Anything special?”

“Football. Watched my kid play Friday and then spent the weekend watching the CFL.”

“How about those Riders?”

“The Green Machine is rolling, and what about Toronto?”

“Good to be Damon Allen. Bad to be Ronnie Lancaster.”

“You said it. What’s with Montreal? Four losses in a row?”

“Hey, they’re still in first place. If you can play that bad and still be in first you must have been doing something right.”

“I don’t know, they played like Edmonton. I’d hate to have been in their locker room.”

“Montreal’s or Edmonton’s?”

“Either!”

“So how’d your kid’s team do?”

“They won 46-19.”

“Nice. Any chance of him making the Lions?”

“It’s hard to say. It’s his senior year, if he doesn’t get scouted this year he says he’s joining the army.”

“The army? Are you kidding? It seems every time I turn on the news, we’re losing someone over there.”

“He’s got a whole year. Anything could happen. If we can get his grades up, he can still get into University…or talk him out of it.”

“You know it’s funny. There are kids over there that aren’t much older than he is right?”

“We know. What’s funny about that?”

“Nothing. I was just thinking, do you know what we’re doing over there?”

“Not exactly.”

“Me either. It’s just that we know more about football than we do about Afghanistan.”

“You’re right. Maybe it’s time to start paying attention.”
